What to Wear for a Pilates Workout: Outfits That Move With You

Updated: Aug 13

Cute crew socks for the hotties at Pilates For Hotties. These would be perfect when wondering what to wear for a pilates workout!

Hey Hotties!

Let’s talk fashion and function because yes, you can have both in your Pilates wardrobe. And don’t worry because I am here as your personal fashion guide to make sure your outfit not only supports your flow and flex but also makes you feel like the confident, gorgeous pilates princess you are. 💅✨

Whether you're rolling out your mat at home, in a studio with the sun streaming in, or just popping in for a quick reformer session before brunch, what you wear matters. It’s not about looking “perfect”, and I put that in quotes because let’s be honest, you could look perfect in anything, it’s about wearing pieces that move with you, support you, and hype you up every step (or stretch!) of the way.

What to Wear for Pilates Workouts

Despite the type of Pilates you are working with, you must base your outfit on comfort, stretch, and support. After all, there was this one time that I wore these shorts, but the catch was… they were WAYY too short. When I put them on, I wasn’t thinking about the comfort, stretch, or support they provided because when I lay on my back… it looked like… I had no pants on LOL. Super uncomfortable both literally and figuratively for me. Those went right in the bin when I got home.

That is why, now I will always reach for a high-waisted legging that hugs me in allll the right places paired with a matching sports bra and grip socks, either crew length or ankle length depending on what I’m feeling that day!

You want something breathable, soft, and snug enough to stay put during leg circles, hundreds, and teaser pose drama.

This is what you should look for in Pilates outfits:

  • 4-way stretch fabrics - To test if a fabric is four-way stretch, gently pull it both horizontally and vertically. If it stretches easily in both directions and returns to its original shape, you've got a four-way stretch, hottie-approved fabric!

  • Moisture-wicking magic (we glow, not sweat) - To check if a fabric is moisture-wicking, dab a little water on the inside and see how quickly it spreads and dries. If it pulls moisture away and dries fast, you’ve got that glow-up magic, not sweat drama!

  • Seamless or flat-seam designs to keep it comfy - To see if a piece has seamless or flat-seam designs, run your fingers along the inside. It should feel smooth with no bulky stitching or raised seams. If nothing's digging in or rubbing, your outfit’s built for comfy, no-fuss movement!

If you’re wondering what to wear for Pilates workout routines that challenge your core and test your balance, these three points are your go-to! And yes, you can totally rock a matching set in pastel pink or neon green fashion and flex.

Layer Up Like The Queen You Are!

Let’s be real… walking from the car to the studio can get seriously chilly, especially in the rain or during winter. Layering up is totally fine (and cute!) as long as you stay safe. Just be sure to remove any pieces that could get in the way or become a hazard once you're on the equipment.

This also pertains to layering during warm-ups and cool-downs. Sometimes layers can be beneficial for maintaining your body temperature, helping muscles stay warm and flexible to prevent injury and improve overall workout performance.

For those days, you should totally try these:

  • Oversized zip-ups or cropped hoodies for a cozy-yet-cute vibe

  • Lightweight wrap cardigans for that ballerina-meets-baddie energy

  • A longline shrug or bolero over your sports bra for a little drama

If you’re still unsure what to wear for Pilates workout transitions (from cold to sweaty and back again), think breathable layers that are easy to slip off and on… especially without messing up your hair LOL.

Accessories That Slay (and Stay Out of the Way)

You don’t need much, but the little touches can totally elevate your Pilates vibe. I love topping off a look with:

  • A cute dad hat to keep your hair in check and block that post-sweat sunbeam glow

  • Grippy socks in fun colors or cheeky phrases to keep your feet planted (and your personality shining)

  • A matching scrunchie to tie it all together — because coordination is a lifestyle 💅

These finishing touches bring the flair without the fuss. They are perfect for days when you are just sitting there wondering…. what to wear for Pilates workouts? Indeed, those days can actually bring out the best outfits. Every pilates day calls for slay and slay only.

Confidence Is the Best Fit

At the end of the day, the ultimate outfit is one that makes you feel empowered. If you feel strong, sexy, and ready to take on the mat, that’s the vibe. Dress in pieces that support your movement, let your body breathe, and reflect your inner sparkle. 💗

No pressure, but if you’re into cute grip socks, dad hats, and other Pilates goodies, we’ve got some fun ones. Totally worth a little peek.

Keep being a Hottie and don’t forget…

“I can’t, I have pilates”

xx Lauren
